So, you’re all ready to put your home on the market, you’ve done your research and you feel happy with the way the process is going, but then you find out your neighbour is selling their home too… It can be daunting but in this blog, we are going to show you the right way to handle the situation.
Do Your Research
So, it may have come as a shock but your neighbours selling can also be an advantage to you. The first step you must take is to do your research. Compare your property to theirs, are the rooms the same size, what have they done with the décor which you have done differently and most importantly what is their asking price. Take a good look at their property portfolio and photos, not only can you compare but it can also provide you with new ideas.
Talk to Them
The last thing you want is to develop competition or a feud between your neighbours, instead you can work together to help each other during the process. Ask them about their selling journey so far and what they have done to increase the value of their home. Talk about good and bad experiences and how you both overcame them. The most important thing is to be honest and open with your neighbours.
Don’t Be Scared to Take The leap
Just because your neighbour is selling their property doesn’t mean you have to hold back. If anything, buyers like a little competition and two properties for them to see can act as an advantage. As long as you and your neighbours are on good terms, selling your properties at the same time should not be a problem. Even if your neighbours sell their house before you, do not take it to heart. There are plenty of little things which buyers pick up on that certain properties have, and others don’t. Don’t take it personal and be true to your home.
